Not everyone who loves you
will stay.
Some will wave
from the bright windows of your life
and disappear at the next station.
Some will promise forever
the way children promise
they will never grow old.
Some will walk beside you
only while the road is easy
while the sky is clear
and the laughter comes quickly.
But life is a long road.
People grow busy.
People grow distant.
People grow into strangers.
Conversations become shorter.
Messages arrive later.
Names slowly fade
from the center of your days.
And then there is
the quiet one.
The one who does not make
grand speeches about loyalty.
The one who never announces
how much they care.
They simply appear
again and again
on ordinary mornings,
through tired evenings,
during storms no one else noticed.
When the world becomes heavy
and the light feels far away,
they pull a chair beside you
without asking for thanks.
They are there
when the celebrations end.
They are there
when the silence grows long.
They do not shine the brightest.
They do not speak the loudest.
But they remain
when applause disappears
and the crowd walks home.
Sometimes
the greatest love in a life
is not the loudest promise
or the grandest gesture.
Sometimes
the greatest love in a life
is simply
the person
who stayed.
