with our voices.
Begin where your silence
starts to ache.
Write
as if language has just been invented
and you are the first
to discover its fire.
Do not ask the crowd
what a poem should be.
Crowds love echoes.
A poem is not an echo.
It is a stone
thrown into still water.
If you admire another poet,
do not walk behind them.
Walk beside their shadow
until it disappears.
Truth is not obedient.
Sometimes it arrives
dressed as doubt.
Sometimes it sits quietly
in the corner of your loneliness
waiting for ink.
When love comes,
do not describe it too quickly.
Love dislikes explanations.
It prefers
to be felt slowly
like rain
entering the earth.
If darkness visits you,
Offer it a chair.
The night often brings
the sharpest lines.
And if joy visits you,
do not hold it too tightly.
Joy is a bird
that sings best
on open branches.
Do not worry
about writing the perfect poem.
Perfection is a museum.
Poetry is a living street
where footsteps change the road.
Write badly.
Write honestly.
Write until the page
recognizes your soul.
And if one day
Your words travel farther than you,
Do not chase them.
Let them go
like lanterns into the night.
A true poem
does not belong to its poet.
It belongs
to the stranger
who needed it most.
