The clock on the wall
pretends to rule the room.
Tick by tick,
it counts the seconds
like a careful accountant of time.
But the clock is not the ruler.
It is only the listener.
It listens
to the quiet breathing of midnight,
to the kettle beginning to whisper,
to footsteps returning home late.
It hears laughter
that slips out of ordinary evenings.
It hears the long pauses
between words that people cannot say.
The clock remembers everything
and keeps none of it.
Morning comes
and the hands move forward
as if nothing ever happened.
But somewhere inside its patient ticking
Every moment still echoes.
It listens
to pages turning in lonely rooms,
to rain tapping gently on windows,
to dreams that arrive quietly
after the lights go out.
And when the house finally sleeps,
The clock keeps watch in the darkness
guarding the fragile seconds
that become
someone’s memories tomorrow.
